As with lots of ‘conventional farming’ methods, many synthetic chemicals are used in ‘conventional’ cacao farming (it’s odd that ‘conventional farming’ means it uses synthetic chemicals… slippery linguistic-deception at play).

Organophosphates: insecticides targeting the nervous system of insects… they also disrupt our nervous systems (and up the animal food chain from the insects – killing birds and other larger fauna).
In humans these Organophosphates can cause a range of symptoms, from mild symptoms like headaches, dizziness and nausea, to long-term neurological issues!
Fungicides: These are Endocrine* disruptors, ingesting these leads to hormonal imbalances and developmental issues in humans.
*Your Endocrine System is a complex network of glands and organs… that are best NOT disrupted by synthetic chemicals.

Vaccines: New vaccines are being used on Cacao Trees! This is a novel approach for plants, and it’s long-term effects are unknown.

Did you know that most Cacao is Alkalized?
Alkalizing is a process that involves treating cacao with a solution like Potassium Carbonate to alter it.

This artificial process removes many of the beneficial polysaccharides, minerals, etc… and makes the cacao powder look darker.
It’s not an added colour (although some cacao does have artificial colours added too… and artificial flavours!)… rather Alkalizing the cacao chemically alters it, making it darker.
